Here is Part 3 of my personal project series. I had the opportunity to work with Lindsey, the other half of The Life you Love Photography and I think we made some really special images that day. I still can’t believe that the folks I have photographed for this series are not models. They seriously should be. Lindsey makes magic on both sides of the camera and it was an absolute blast working with her on this project.

PERSONAL PROJECT – Part 2

Here is part 2 from my personal project series with the fabulous Leah. She is one half of the dynamic duo of The Life You Love Photography. But more importantly, she is just an overall awesome person.

Since I have started this project it has grown and matured with a more distinct direction. Still the same concept, but with a focus on what lies underneath the masks that we wear. Kind of like a mullet, business in the front, party in the back but more along the happiness on the masks that we wear and possibly, the sadness underneath. Ok maybe not a good analogy but I hope you guys get my drift. Since this project deals with some personal feelings, I am blessed that they have let me into their lives to document something that I have been wanting to explore more with my work.

A huge thank you to my buddy Jim for giving me the push to start working on personal projects and for the productive talks/arguments about work/art/creativity/life/the color of grass etc. every time I am back in Houston. You have always been the talented one. Even though you will probably not hear that in person.

I first met Whitney & Alex at a wedding we worked on together. They are the awesome folks behind Sculpting with Time Productions. I was honored that they wanted me to shoot their engagement photos. It really means a lot when you get the opportunity to work with people in the industry.

We had a great time shooting their engagement session out in Cat Spring at Blisswood Bed & Breakfast. A perfect afternoon spent with some great new friends.

PERSONAL PROJECT – Part 1

I realized that I had not shot any personal work in a long, long time. I have been so busy that I had forgotten what it had felt like to work on something for myself. I felt the need to start working on personal projects again to continue to grow as a creative and personally.

This project is going to be a series of melancholy songs. I work with amazing couples in love on a weekly basis so I wanted to go in a completely opposite direction for my own personal project. The context of this project is to explore the different elements of sadness, sorrow and grief. The first song that I used as a reference point was Nancy Sinatra’s – Bang Bang.

I chose to use medium format film cameras, Contax 645 & Pentax 67 as well as a Polaroid Land camera for this project.

I also want to thank Julie who is an amazing photographer that helped me out with this project. She found the perfect wardrobe for the theme of the shoot and worked it like a boss in front of the camera. You can see her beautiful work here.

So it begins, the first of hopefully many more personal projects to come.

Here is Michelle & Eric’s wedding at Chateau Cocomar in Houston. They initially met in Austin but their story did not start until they both ended up working in Minneapolis. Life has a funny way of setting things up and sending two Texans to Minnesota proved to be absolutely perfect for these two.
